& Global Indigenous Research Hub

Weaving Worlds

Relational Knowledge, Cultural Continuity, Global Responsibility.

The Oceania Global Indigenous Research hub is guided by Indigenous relational theory that emphasises interconnectedness, accountability and collective knowledge sharing. The hub strives to uphold reflexive and culturally responsive practices that align with CSU’s ethos of Wiradyuri Yindyamarra Winhanganha—to create a world worth living in. This commitment ensures that its work is both culturally grounded and globally relevant, advancing the aspirations of First Nations people and peoples through meaningful and ethical research engagements. The hub supports academic research into policy, professional practices, and cultural structures by exploring knowledge systems and approaches that foster respectful and meaningful exchange between communities, institutions, the professions, and individuals, including those that strengthen cultural identity, continuity, and self-determined futures across the global south.

We bring expertise in Indigenous and Indigenist research methodologies, ethical considerations, co-developed programs in aligned fields, and practical research support. First Nations-building and language revitalisation are now international practices. We know that almost 20% of all Māori now reside in Sydney, Australia. Pasifika, make up approximately 1% of Australia’s total population, and the community is growing due to education, employment, and sporting opportunities in Australia.

There are opportunities to collaborate with international peers on joint research. Members will engage with fresh perspectives, e.g. exposure to different methodologies, frameworks, and epistemologies. There are also opportunities for co-authoring competitive international grant applications and co-designing research projects.
